Meet The Mayor Meeting A Huge Success!

It was a “full house” at this years Meet The Mayor Meeting on Saturday June 23rd as Mayor Francis Hodgson delivered his “State of the Town Address” at the Surf City Fire House. Over 100 taxpayers were in attendance to hear the Mayor and get their questions answered. A shout out to Bagels & Beyond where breakfast was purchased.

The topics ranged from street repaving schedules to beach replenishment and newly guarded beaches. Over 50 questions from homeowners were fielded by the Mayor.

Mayor Hodgson  also reminded residents about some retirements in borough hall over the last year and new roles being filled such as the new Police Chief. The Mayor also continued the tradition of presenting a budget and tax comparison of Surf City to Ship Bottom and Beach Haven. You can find those financial documents HERE.

The Taxpayer Association also announced the formation of a town beautification committee. The idea is to have each street have a team captain to oversee
the “design and execution” of their street at the beach entrance. This year’s goal is to have two streets done as a stepping stone. The next Town Hall Meeting — scheduled for Saturday August 25th — will be devoted to sharing Beautification plans and taking input and ideas from town residents.

Meet The Mayor This Saturday 6/23

Each year, we offer a one-time chance to meet and hear from our Mayor, the Honorable Francis Hodgson. This year’s meeting will be held this Saturday, June 23rd at 10:00am. Francis Hodgson has been mayor since January 6th, 2016, after being a member of the Surf City Council for more than four decades. During this Meet The Mayor meeting you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions (and hear the questions and concerns of your neighbors and fellow taxpayers). The Mayor will address issues that have recently been raised by citizens and businesses.  Here are a few topics that have been discussed in the past:

  • Current state of Borough finances including Budget and Tax Comparison to other Towns
  • Beach Replenishment
  • General Public Safety Initiatives
  • Street Flooding
  • Street Repaving Schedules

You’ll also hear from the Surf City Taxpayer Association Board about projects underway and events planned for the summer. Click Here to see our events calendar. And, if you have an interest in getting involved, any board member will be happy to talk with you.

Meet The Mayor 2018

After experiencing standing room only crowds, the meeting has been moved to the Firehouse. Be sure to come early. Starting at 9:45 am, enjoy free breakfast treats and free coffee. The Meet The Mayor meeting will begin at 10:00am. We look forward to an informative and engaging dialogue on these and other issues that are on the minds of our citizens.

New Procedures Worked Out for Homeowners Seeking Boat Ramp Passes

We received several complaints last year pertaining to boat ramp passes for vessels where the vessel was in one spouse/partner’s name, and the property in Surf City was in the other’s name.  In order to help resolve this, the Borough of Surf City has agreed to issue passes where the property and vessel are in different names under the following conditions:

* Both parties must be present at Borough Hall when the pass is requested.

*Both parties must show proof of ID, as well as the trailer and vessel registration.

*Both parties must sign an affidavit stating that the owner of the vessel has a financial interest in the property.  This affidavit will  be notarized at the same time.

Memorial Day Weekend- Summer Kickoff 2018

Last Chance For Season Beach Badges

May 31st will be the last day you can purchase seasonal beach badges for a $10.00 discount. They will be only $30.00 but on June 1st they will be $40.00. If you plan on surfing outside the flags this summer without any hassles you will need one.  Link HERE for info about beach badges on the Surf City Municipal website.

Streets and Beaches Shaping Up

The road construction on Barnegat Ave is almost completed at this point. There are only two blocks left from 3rd to 5th streets to be completed. The new curbs, which run from 3rd st to 11th st, are rather high and the median will now be difficult to access with a vehicle or bicycle. All the upgraded storm drains are in and also the handicapped accesses. In the first picture the old curb is visible merging with the new curb on the north end of the project.

The beach fill is ongoing still in Brant Beach and will soon begin in Harvey Cedars. Surf City is scheduled to begin fill operations as soon as Harvey Cedars is complete. All the details can be found HERE in The SandPaper.
