Public Safety Project 20 Years in the Making is Now Complete

SCTA Volunteers Paint the Curbs YellowA Surf City Taxpayer Association issue — and #1 agenda item — that has been under discussion and debate in our town for over 20 years is finally resolved. The curbs on Long Beach Blvd are now painted yellow to inform residents and visitors that there is no parking within 25 feet of an intersection in Surf City.

On May 31 volunteers from the Surf City Tax Payers Association teamed up with Girl Scout Gabriela Hartney and her family and recruited volunteers to go from the south end to the north end of Surf City to paint restricted parking areas yellow. Gaby had made this her Girl Scout Gold Award project.

The marking of restricted parking areas can greatly reduce the bad feelings that arise from visitors and residents who unknowingly park within 25 feet of intersection — and are issued a parking violation. This has been a source of frustration from local business owners whose customers are usually unaware of the 25 foot ordinance. It will also help to prevent accidents by giving drivers coming out of side streets a better view of oncoming cars and pedestrians on the Boulevard.

We would like to thank the following Surf City Tax Payer Association Members for helping to complete the Curb Painting Project:

Rosemary Fallar, Bob Lieber, Allison Lieber, Sheldon Kass, Jean Daniels, Pete Williams, Ron and Lorraine Bergondo, Anita Barnes and Susanne Gilbert.

We would also like to thank Gaby and her recruited volunteers who helped bring this issue to resolution. Thanks also go out to Councilman Peter Hartney and Police Chief Collins.
