New Elevation Standards for New Jersey

“CHRISTIE ADMINISTRATION FILES RULE PACKAGE ESTABLISHING NEW ELEVATION STANDARD FOR NEW JERSEY
Action uses latest FEMA Elevation Standards to Ensure Resiliency in Future Storms and Protect Residents from Rising Flood Insurance Costs

The Christie Administration has filed with the Office of Administrative Law an adoption package supporting final rules that will make permanent new statewide elevation standards based on Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood maps. This action, taken Monday, provides clear direction for residents as they rebuild from the devastating effects of Superstorm Sandy.

The Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) filing of documents supporting amendments to the state’s Flood Hazard Area Control Act keeps in place an emergency rule the Administration authorized in January. The emergency rule and its final amendments utilize FEMA’s recently released Advisory Base Flood Elevation (ABFE) maps as the statewide standard for elevation of homes in flood zones.”

Special Donation to the Volunteer Fire Company

The Surf City Taxpayers Association made a special donation of $1,000 to the Surf City Volunteer Fire Company. At the February 13 Borough Council Meeting, President Mike Ippolito presented the check on behalf of the Board of Trustees and members of the Organization, to Councilman James Russell, who is also the Vice President of the Fire Company. The purpose of the donation was to express our organization’s gratitude for their outstanding work and support related to the Hurricane Sandy disaster.

This special donation was made in addition to one made to the Fire Company in 2012 for $1,000 to assist with their ongoing operations. The Taxpayers Association makes donations every year to various local organizations and causes based on funds received from dues and donations of their members.
