Smoothies and Some Pink

Very nice article in The SandPaper about Ethel E Jacobson Elementary students planting, harvesting and preparing kale into smoothies.

This month Surf City will have the town dressed in pink as a reminder for women to understand the importance of annual mammograms! Borough Hall, businesses and residents will be displaying decorations.

Again this year, the Surf City Taxpayer Association will be sponsoring “The Pinkest Business Award” — bestowed upon those businesses who have done the best work in showing their business’ support for the Paint The Town Pink Campaign.

You’ll also notice the pink flowers planted at Borough Hall — another element of our support for this important, town-wide initiative.

Other events: There will be a “Canvas and Cocktails Paint The Town Pink” event at LBI Foundation for the Arts and Sciences on May 26th this year.

Hydrant Flushing and Seal Sunning

Please be aware the township will be conducting hydrant flushing from 4/24 to 4/28. You may experience rust in the water for a period of time.

A seal was either sunning itself or stranded on 17th street beach on April 8th and 9th. Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine was contacted and the seal was rescued successfully. Please be aware that federal law prohibits anyone from approaching any beached seals. 150 feet is the rule but on our small-ish beaches that can be tough. Use discretion please. The baby gray seal was safe and healthy, and was relocated to a different area on the coast.

If you encounter a beached seal and it appears in distress please call Marine Mammal Stranding Center.  609-226-7928

Beach Buggy Access

The beach buggy access on 18th street is still closed to all vehicle traffic. When on foot please use caution when trying to gain access at this location. The access has been graded on the beach side due to the erosion so access on foot is now safe. Also there was high water on April 6th due to a bad storm.
