Sirens, Rainbows, and Markets

Lots going on in Surf City this week. The new siren was installed and tested successfully at the firehouse. We had a strong thunderstorm pass through right at sunset and it yielded a spectacular rainbow. And the Farmer’s Market was a sight full of vendors and shoppers happily going about their business.

A Great Time For All at the 1st Mini Golf Tourny

1st Surf City Mini Golf Tournament Recap, 2016

There were 74 scores submitted in the July 11th Mini Golf Tournament at the Island Golf Course. Eighteen volunteers from the Surf City Taxpayers Association served as scorers for the tournament. Many players brought their A games as shown by the scores at the top of the leader board.

Ages 8 and under age group-  John Ligouri won his category by posting a two under par 40. That is a significant achievement for the youngster !

Ages 9-15 – 1st and 3rd place was won by Julian Thomas. Julian, a Delaware native, shot a 33 to win the division. Watch out for him next year when he competes in the Senior Division

Ages 16 + Over – There was a three way tie atop the leader board at the conclusion of their rounds. Finishing with the score of 35 were Ken Cadmus, Beau Guarino, and Ben Skimmons. The shoot out was won on the second layoff hole when Ken Cadmus made a hole in one to end the match.

Congratulations to all the players. Our next tournament will be Wednesday August 10th with a 10:00 AM start.

Special thanks goes to the Surf City 5 & 10 for their generous donation of all of the prize money and to the staff at Island Golf for their outstanding hospitality.

Meet The Mayor is a Huge Success

It was standing room on Saturday June 25th as newly elected Mayor Francis Hodgson delivered his first “State of the Town Address” at Borough Hall. Over 100 taxpayers were in attendance to hear the Mayor and get their questions answered. And a special thanks goes out to Baked on the Beach for providing the excellent baked good that were enjoyed by all.

The topics ranged from street repaving schedules to elementary school consolidation to reconsidering the ban on outside dining at town restaurants.  The Mayor also continued the tradition started by previous Mayor Connors of presenting a budget and tax comparison of Surf City to Ship Bottom and Beach Haven. You can find that document at the bottom of this post.
